Brooke (Wassenaar) Marren ’14 has built an impressive career at the intersection of healthcare, engineering and innovation. A leader at Medtronic, she has helped guide major medical technology initiatives and recently played a key role in launching a groundbreaking clinical study in peripheral vascular health. 

At Minnetonka, Marren built a foundation in service, curiosity and leadership. Girls’ lacrosse coach Larsen taught her to support other women, while calculus teacher Mrs. Hersam encouraged her to challenge herself and believe she belonged—lessons that later helped her navigate male-dominated college classrooms and make those spaces more accessible to others.

After graduating from Minnetonka, Marren earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and applied mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison before earning a master’s degree in medical device innovation from the University of Minnesota. 

Marren now works at Medtronic as a New Product Development Core Team Lead in Peripheral Vascular Health. Her team recently reached a major milestone by enrolling the first patient in the Onyx™ Liquid Embolic IDE Clinical Study, which is exploring treatment for arterial hemorrhage in the peripheral vasculature. Marren entered the medical technology industry as a way to bridge her love of numbers with her desire to serve others.

“My work is driven by the belief that technology can transform lives,” Marren said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see new innovations move from concept to clinical impact, and I’m proud to help lead teams that make this possible.”

Each year, Marren gives back to Minnetonka through VANTAGE by mentoring a young woman interested in engineering, offering the same kind of encouragement that once helped her recognize she belonged in technical spaces. She carries that commitment into her professional community as Minnesota chapter leader for WISE, the Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment, helping more women enter, grow and lead in engineering.

Marren encourages Minnetonka students to embrace both challenge and curiosity. 
“Don’t be afraid to take on big problems or try new things,” she said. “Success comes from learning, growing and working with others to make a difference.”
